What is civility?

Civility means...

Civility is the ability to disagree productively with others while respecting their sincerity and decency.

Civility means...

Civility is doing what is right for the greater good.

Civility means...

Standing up for what is right, no matter to whom or whom for.

Civility means...

Civility is helping others regardless of their race.

Civility means...

Civility is helping others regardless of their race.

Civility means...

Civility means treating others as you would treat yourself: equally and respectfully.

Civility means...

Putting your empty disposable cup in a trash can instead of throwing it on the sidewalk is civil.

Civility means...

To me Civility means observing the new commandment Jesus Christ has shown us, which is loving one another.

Civility means...

Civility means being respectful, understanding, and validating of another person's experience, especially if that experience comes from a historically repressed group- even if that experience is difficulty to understand.

Civility means...

Polite means that no one think "as" in any room, polite means, "real" respect for all.

Civility means...

Civility is making everyone feel comfortable enough to want to wake up and have another awesome day at the University of Tennessee!

Civility means...

Civility means making no one feel like the "Elephant" in any room. All should be treated inclusively--No more outcast. One can not change the color of their skin. Civility means, "Genuine" respect for all.

Civility means...

The outcomes of consistent gracious actions with integrity!

Civility means...

Civility is the opposite of how students are treated by the Administration and staff at UT. Just because we are younger, doesn't mean we are less human as you, ok Deans and other admin people?! Civility is realizing that the students pay your salary so start treating us with more respect.

Civility means...

Civility means not stopping in the middle of a sentence to ask, as if possessed, where're you from? Because, Americans all came from somewhere else unless they are Native Indians and everyone in the world has an accent.

Civility means FOod-niceness: not forcing people who are less developed(financial-wise) and get the limited 75 meals per semester plan to use it only at certain times--for example, if someone I know uses their meal plan upstairs they cannot downstairs, though, yes, the opposite is possible--but what about those who go upstairs at Presidential and then wish to come downstairs and buy using multiple meal plans why is it illegal (currently) to buy more at once--that makes one cast a bad eye on the awesome meal options (food, et cetera). Civility is also, maybe, saying something nice also, so I like that I can choose my major--though not that non-major courses such as general requirements are forced upon (students) by people with money. Civility would mean Freedom of Speech and art but not in a really, really mocking fashion. Freedom of Speech would also imply freedom of speaking about one's religion/trying to proselyte anyone (if done in a nice fashion/conduct) and not being thrown off (premises).

Civility means...

Civility means that everyone accepts everyone for who they already are. Nobody should ever feel the need to change who they are.

Civility means...

I (civilly) disagree with Anonymous who posted April 25 at 3:33 PM. Civility doesn't mean being so PC that we all become weak-minded cowards. It's quite the opposite. Civility means being intelligent enough to express your true beliefs without insult or disrespect. It doesn't mean accepting all you hear, but it does mean listening to what others have to say.

Civility means...

Civility means treating everyone with the same respect regardless of race or sex.

Civility means...

Civility is being patient and polite to all, especially those you disagree with.

Civility means...

What Civility means to me;

Civility is when all works toguether for the benefit of all.

Civility means...

Civility can mean that no one is brave enough to have convictions and stand for what they believe to be true. It can mean blurring the lines until there is no truth. It can be a fancy word for political correctness and a way to make cover and amends for anyone who has been justly or injustly offended. A university seems like a funny place to tell people to play nice and not rustle any feathers. Somehow I think previous generations would roll their eyes.

Civility means...

Having no need for guns on campus

Civility means...

It means "You honkies betta watch yo mouths"
