Civility means treating other how you want to be treated, with respect and kindness.

I will be a freshman at UT this fall and I come from a small town south of Knoxville where there isn't much cultural diversity. I come from an all white high school and haven't really had to deal with many people that come from completely different walks of life than me.

I think "civility" is the simple process of realizing that there are many different types of people with many different opinions, and it is okay to disagree. The ability to have a logical discussion with someone then agree to disagree is a powerful ability that every student should work towards.

Civility, to me, means quite literally "treat others the way you want to be treated." You should interact with everyone in a kind manner regardless of race, gender, or any other disguising factor.
